Plasterboard in Alicante · Partitions, Ceilings and Dry Lining

Plasterboard

Plasterboard earned its reputation for the obvious reason: you can put up a partition in a morning, with no water, no rubble and no waiting for anything to dry. But what really makes it interesting in a renovation is everything else: ceilings with concealed lighting, the recessed niche in the shower, the built-in unit under the television, the boxing that hides a soil pipe or the wardrobe that makes use of an impossible corner.

At Grupo Construcciones Alicante we carry out plasterboard work in homes, commercial units and offices across Alicante and the province. We use the right board for each situation (standard, moisture-resistant, fire-resistant or impact-resistant), install with the correct framing and insulation, and hand over surfaces jointed and ready to paint, which is where you see whether the work has been done properly.

ADVANTAGES OF OUR SERVICE

With board you can build almost any shape, and that freedom is what solves the typical problems of a renovation. A soil pipe crossing the living room? Boxed in and gone. A ceiling with beams at different heights? Levelled out. Not enough storage? A built-in wardrobe works out cheaper and fits better than anything from a catalogue.

It is also the cleanest way to improve comfort in an existing home. A lining with mineral wool against a party wall cuts the neighbour’s noise and stops the cold or heat coming through that wall, and all of it happens within a few centimetres of thickness, with no wet trades and without having to move out.

How We Work

Good plasterboard work is recognised in the finish. This is how we do it:

01
Contact & visit

We look at what you want to solve and measure heights, beams and services that need routing around or concealing. With ceilings, the available headroom decides what can be integrated.

02
Fixed quote

A fixed quote with the square metres, the type of board, whether it is single or double layer, the insulation and special items such as coves, niches or built-in furniture.

03
Planning

We mark the exact layout on the floor and walls and install the framing with acoustic tape, checking plumb and level before any board goes up.

04
Execution

We fit the insulation and run the services inside; then the boards are screwed to the studs at the correct spacing and pattern, with the tapered edges facing out.

05
Quality control

We tape and fill the joints in several passes, sand and check the result in raking light, which is how any defect shows before painting.

06
Handover & guarantee

We vacuum the sanding dust, protect the corners with beads and hand over surfaces ready for the decorator, with access hatches fitted.

TYPES & SOLUTIONS

Every board has its place. Standard board is for partitions and dry-lined ceilings; moisture-resistant board goes in bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms; fire-resistant board where fire resistance is required, such as service boxing or compartmentation; and impact-resistant board stands up better to knocks in corridors and busy areas. Using the wrong one is the most common mistake and the one paid for years later.

Ceilings. A continuous ceiling lets you integrate downlights, concealed curtain tracks and coves for indirect lighting, and hide the air conditioning ductwork. An accessible ceiling suits offices and units where services need reaching often. In homes with exposed beams, a suspended ceiling levels the plane and improves insulation if the void is used for mineral wool.

Built-in items. Benches, shelving, headboards, shower niches, desks and complete wardrobes. They are built with internal reinforcement wherever loads will hang and finished like the rest of the wall, so they read as part of the room rather than as added furniture.

Acoustics and fire. Certified systems achieve specific insulation and fire resistance values depending on the build-up, the layers and the insulation inside. Where there is a regulatory requirement, the system is chosen on its test data, not on how it looks.

Why Choose Us?

What separates good board work from mediocre board work is almost entirely in the joint finishing. Taping, applying several passes of compound with proper drying time between them and sanding well is slow, dusty work that never shows in a quote, but it is the only thing that guarantees the wall won’t show its joints when light hits it from the side. A partition put up quickly and filled in a rush gives itself away the moment it is painted.

The second detail is the reinforcement. Anything that will carry weight (wall units, televisions, wall-hung sanitaryware, loaded shelving) needs internal reinforcement fitted during installation. That is why we ask beforehand what is going on each wall.

And the third is access hatches. Where soil pipes and ductwork are boxed in, isolating valves, dampers and chambers must remain reachable. Closing up boxing without a hatch guarantees that the day there is a leak, something will have to be broken open.

Plasterboard work we carry out regularly in Alicante:

  • Continuous ceiling with a cove for indirect lighting in living rooms.
  • Boxing-in of soil pipes and air conditioning ducts, with access hatch.
  • Wall lining with mineral wool against noisy party walls.
  • Niches and built-in benches in showers.
  • Fitted wardrobes and dressing rooms.
  • Dividing a large room into two bedrooms.

Yes, with internal reinforcement fitted during installation: a board or steel plate between the studs in the planned position. With that in place, the bracket screws in as it would on any wall. If the partition is already closed, it can still be resolved with specific expanding fixings for plasterboard, though they spread the load less. Tell us where the television is going before we build and it costs virtually nothing.

Yes, using moisture-resistant board throughout the bathroom and cement board inside the shower, where water hits directly. That substrate is then waterproofed and tiled exactly as a masonry wall would be. What must never be done is using standard board in a wet area: it will swell behind the tiling.

Tap it and yes, it sounds hollow. In everything else, if it is properly built, no. It insulates against noise as well or better, takes the same hanging loads with the right reinforcement, and is painted and tiled in exactly the same way. In exchange it wins on programme, cleanliness, thickness taken up and the ability to run insulation and services inside without chasing out a single channel.

The minimum is four or five centimetres if you only want a level plane and recessed lights. If air conditioning ductwork has to pass through, allow between twenty and thirty depending on the unit and the route, which is why the usual approach is to drop the ceiling only in corridors and circulation areas, leaving the living room at its original height. We measure it on site and tell you what can be integrated.

Installation is quick: a partition goes up in hours and a living room ceiling in a day or two. What governs the programme is the joint finishing, which needs several passes with drying time between them. As a guide, a ceiling with a lighting cove in a home is ready to paint four or five days after we start.

Yes, and easily: the damaged area is cut out, a patch is fitted with backing behind, then taped, filled and sanded. Done properly, it doesn’t show. It is one of its advantages over masonry, where a serious knock means repairing with mortar and waiting for it to dry. Keeping some of the original paint helps the repair disappear completely.
